As we prepare students for college and career readiness, the Howard County Public School System recognizes the connection between health and student achievement. Students in HCPSS learn about physical literacy through a physical education program in Grades K-9 and in elective courses in Grades 10-12. The goal of physical education is to develop physically literate individuals who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthy physical activity.
For over ten years, the HCPSS Physical Education program has used the National Health Fitness Assessment, FitnessGram, for students in Grades 4-9 as an integrated component of the physical education curriculum . For more information, please read the letter below. Further, parents may choose to have their child opt out of the body composition (height/weight measurement) assessment portion of FitnessGram. If you prefer to NOT have your child’s height and weight information collected at the school, please send in the form (attached below) and return it your child's PE teacher. If you have questions, please contact Ms. Vo at firstname.lastname@example.org.
