HCPSS students and their families can now view menus and nutrition and allergen information for meals served in all HCPSS schools through Nutrislice, a website and free smartphone app.
This upgrade to school menus benefits school health professionals and parents who can easily access nutritional information and make informed choices for their child’s nutrition.
The Howard County Public School System recently transitioned to a new online meal payment system, MySchoolBucks.com. This website allows families to easily manage student accounts and make payments online on personal computers and mobile devices.

Howard County Public School System’s Food & NutritionService Department is very pleased to announce that they are the first school system in Maryland to be able to offer an Online Processing System for Free and Reduced Price Meal Applications. This new addition to the website will allow parents privacy in completing the application and receiving notification of status. There will also be help in the schools for families who want to use the system but need help with the computer or language assistance.
The online application is divided into sections. Each section must be completed with the requested data before the applicant is allowed to move to the next screen. No more receiving returned applications because they are incomplete or the family missed a line. It should be very helpful to the person filling out the application.
The school system currently uses this software to scan the applications they receive through the US mail or from the schools. Parents can continue to complete the paper application and submit it for processing. This new process allows families direct access to the scanning system in complete privacy. Given the current economic downturn this should be very helpful to families.
The Health Room is closed for the summer, but will reopen August 24th to accept medications for 2017-2018 school year. The Health Room will not be staffed at certain times that week, so please call ahead to make sure someone will be there. All medication orders must be ﬁlled out and dated after July 1st, per Howard County Public School System policy. ATTENTION PARENTS OF CURRENT 6TH GRADERS:
**IMPORTANT – NEW IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS**
Effective the first day of school, 2017-2018, 1 dose of Tdap vaccine and 1 dose of Meningococcal vaccine will be required by the state of Maryland for all students entering Grade 7. If we DO NOT receive proof of immunization, your child will be excluded from school. Many students may have already received these immunizations, but the Health Room may not have the updated immunization record. Please contact your child’s doctor and send/fax an updated copy of your child’s immunizations to the Health Room. Our fax # is (410) 313-1286.

Students who become ill while at school must come to the health room to be evaluated. Please discuss with your student that he/she should not use his/her cell phone to call/text parents for pick-up during the school day. Students who feel ill should report directly to the health room and parents will be contacted, as needed, once students are seen by our nurse.

The school system does not carry medical insurance for accidents that occur at school, including non-sport related injuries, such as trips and falls, physical education injuries, and recess/playground injuries. Thus, parents are encouraged to enroll students in the accident insurance program offered through HCPSS.
The Maryland Children’s Health Insurance Program (MCHIP) is available for families, pregnant women, and children in need of medical insurance. Applications are available through the school health assistant or by contacting the Howard County Health Department at 410-313-7500.
